This research aimed to investigate the factors leading to dropout among students in physical education high schools in Kurdistan province. The research approach was qualitative, specifically utilizing the systematic data-based strategy (Strauss and Corbin). Sixteen male students were purposefully selected and studied based on theoretical saturation. Data collection tools included semi-structured interviews, online media information, and document review. After implementing qualitative interview texts and extracting the interviewees' perspectives, the content of the interview texts, online media information, and documents were analyzed using a three-stage coding method (open, axial, and selective). A total of 332 open codes were obtained, which were then reduced to 234 primary codes and 20 axial codes after removing redundant codes. To ensure data reliability and validity, research stages, author characteristics, resource enrichment, data triangulation, and participant validation were employed. Findings revealed that causal factors for dropout included internal demotivation, family financial problems, and peer pressure. Background factors comprised inappropriate family atmosphere, parental illiteracy, and societal literacy discrepancies. Intervention factors in dropout included parental coercion for education and inadequate school facilities and infrastructure. Proposed strategies to reduce dropout included support from school staff, attention to students in challenging circumstances, and teacher empathy towards students. Ultimately, the consequences of student dropout included reduced social competencies and negative attitudes towards education. | ||
