| چکیده | ||
Aims: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders in women, which is associated with increased androgens, infertility, and insulin resistance. This study aimed to investigate the effect of 12 weeks of functional training combined with berberine supplementation on sex hormones in women with PCOS. Method: In a randomized controlled trial, 40 women with PCOS (20-35 years old) were divided into four groups: control, training, berberine, and training + berberine. Functional training consisted of multi-joint movements in three 60-minute sessions per week for 12 weeks. The groups receiving berberine consumed two 500 mg tablets daily. The levels of testosterone, DHEA, PRL, LH, FSH, SHBG, estrogen, progesterone, and TSH were measured by ELISA before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed with t-test and ANCOVA (significance level p<0.05). Results: After 12 weeks, significant decreases in testosterone (p=0.001, η²=0.42) and DHEA (p=0.02, η²=0.28) were observed in the intervention groups. Prolactin also decreased significantly (p=0.015), while SHBG levels increased (p=0.04). Changes in LH, FSH, progesterone, and TSH were not statistically significant (p>0.05). Overall, the combination of exercise and berberine showed a greater effect than either alone. Conclusion: The combined intervention of functional exercise and berberine consumption improved hormonal indices and reduced androgens in women with PCOS. The findings emphasize that the use of combined non-pharmacological approaches can be an effective and safe option for controlling the symptoms of this syndrome. | ||
