| چکیده | ||
| This study explores the relationship between language, power, and emotion in Naoise Dolan's Exciting Times, utilizing Norman Fairclough's Theory of Critical Discourse Analysis and Eva Illouz's Concept of Emotional Capitalism. The interplay of characters' actions is discussed, focusing on the interaction of ambiguous speech, ambiguity, unequal verbal interaction, and their influence on the relationship between characters and strengthening the power gaps between characters. The researcher illustrates how emotional experience might seem to be a personal matter, but can be constructed and controlled by power, interpretation, and expectations within the context of relational exchange. In particular, the emotional depth of this relationship is not shared equally; Julian does not show the emotional depth that Ava does. Furthermore, the study suggests that the act of constructing intimacy in Exciting Times is connected to larger-scale neoliberal discourses of emotion as a commodity in an exchange economy, where language serves as a means of negotiating power and realities, identities, and expectations. | ||
