| چکیده | ||
| This study investigates how dyadic interaction patterns shape the development of interactional competence (IC) in virtual language learning. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, we examined the attitudes, challenges, and competency outcomes of 40 intermediate Iranian EFL learners engaged in dominant/dominant, dominant/passive, and expert/novice dyads during an eight-week online course. IC was assessed across actional, conversational, and nonverbal dimensions. Qualitative data from interviews revealed positive attitudes toward peer collaboration but persistent difficulties with linguistic accuracy and interpreting nonverbal cues. Quantitative analysis showed significant variation in IC levels within expert/novice dyads, but not in other patterns. Crucially, a MANOVA indicated that dyadic patterns differentially contributed only to actional competence development (p = .003), not to conversational or nonverbal competencies. These findings demonstrate that expert/novice pattern is particularly effective in virtual settings and that actional competence is most sensitive to dyadic social structure. The study highlights the need for strategic learner pairing and targeted scaffolding of interactional skills in online language pedagogy | ||
