| چکیده | ||
| This comparative postcolonial study of Inaam Kachachi’s The American Granddaughter (2008) and Roy Scranton’s War Porn (2016) examines the fractured reconstruction of Iraqi identity after the 2003 U.S. invasion. Selected for their opposing perspectives on the occupation, the novels reveal dimensions of Iraqi identity that individual readings cannot capture. Drawing on Said’s Orientalism, Fanon’s colonial violence, and Bhabha’s hybridity and Third Space, the study argues that both texts resist American liberation rhetoric and portray Iraqi identity as an unstable, historically contingent process shaped by colonial discourse, violence, trauma, and cultural negotiation. Kachachi explores how exile, return, and occupation destabilize national belonging through the fractured consciousness of the colonized subject. Conversely, Scranton, a former American soldier, interrogates the ethical limits of representing Iraq through the occupier’s gaze while exposing the dehumanizing logic of military practice. Read together, the novels illuminate asymmetries of power, voice, and representation, portraying Iraqi identity as emerging through ongoing negotiation among competing narratives rather than the recovery of a stable national essence. By placing Iraqi and American literary perspectives in dialogue, this study contributes to postcolonial scholarship by re-centering Iraqi subjectivity in representations of war and occupation. | ||
